Clean small, light carpet stains for small light colored nonoffensive stains like this stain here, were going to use a small amount of carpet cleaner, a cup of water, and two dry towels.
As soon as the carpet becomes stained, you generally want to clean it up by dabbing at the stain with a towel.
To dab it, press the towel down into the carpet and then allow it to pick up the stain by lifting the towel back up.
Next, lightly pour a few dribbles of water over the stained area and dab at the stain some more with the clean side of your towel.
Finally, spray some carpet cleaner on the stain area, and with your other towel, continue to dab at the stain area until the stain on the carpet disappears completely.
Allow the damp area of the carpet to dry before walking on it.
Now for carpeted areas that are really dirty, sometimes you just have to use a steam cleaner and freshen up the entire carpeted area in the room.
To do this, you will need: most larger household steam cleaner models can be rented from your local grocery store or can be purchased at your local home supply store.
Most steam cleaners use a threepart system.
First the machine sprays a cleaning solution onto the carpet.
Then an agitating brush works the cleaner into the carpet fibers.
Finally, a vacuum system sucks up the dirty solution and stores it in a reservoir for disposal.
Next, its important to pretreat any heavily soiled areas of carpet with a little bit of carpet cleaning solution.
Next, mix the solution for your steam cleaner.
Pour in 1cup of carpet cleaning solution and fill up the rest of the compartment with hot water.
Now that our steam cleaner is prepped and ready to go, plug the extension cord on the steam cleaner into a nearby electrical outlet and start steaming.
If you do, the carpet padding will become soaked and this could lead to mold problems later on.
Once you have covered the entirety of the room with the steam cleaner, feel free to open some windows or turn on a fan.
This will help the carpet dry a little faster.
Finally, try not to walk on the freshly steamed carpet area until the carpet is dry to the touch.
You can check this by pushing your hand down slightly into the carpet.
If your hand is still dry when you lift it up, its good to go!
